Community Service

At North Carolina Cyber Academy, all high school students are required to complete 25 hours of community service with a nonprofit organization each year as part of their graduation requirements.

This requirement supports the cultivation of civic literacy, which is actively participating and initiating change in one’s community. Research has shown that engaging in community service can enhance a myriad of skills, including problem-solving, collaboration, time management, communication, and leadership. Our students have shared that through their community service hours they have:

1. Developed a richer perspective of the world they live in.
2. Connected what they learned in school to the real world.
3. Helped decide on a future career.

Ask yourself: How do you want your service hours to impact you? Find an experience that strengthens your weaknesses, further piques your curiosity, or challenges your thinking. Sky’s the limit!

*Before you begin serving, ask your parent/guardian for their approval of each experience you engage in.

Contact your grade-level counselor for more details.
